The export target set by the Government of Costa Rica for the year 2014 is US$17.000 million (17 billion U.S. dollars).
The Foreign Trade Minister of Costa Rica, Anabel Gonzalez, explained that the exports of information technology (IT) sector will total US$1.000 million (one billion U.S. dollars).
Gonzalez said that this outlook is based on technical work used to make predictions based on long-term trends.
According to these goals, exports of tourism and technology should cover 66% of the quota.
The President of the Chamber of Information and Communication Technologies of Costa Rica (CAMTIC), Alexander Mora, estimates that 30% growth necessary to achieve the target of US$1.000 million (1 billion US dollars), is viable. However, he believes that Costa Rica "must invest in human resources, nail down the opening of telecommunications and improve connectivity”.
According to data published by El Financiero in its 776 edition, "computer-related services grew 45% since 2004” and, to achieve the Government's goal, Costa Rica needs to maintain a 30% growth rate between 2010 and 2014.
