Latin American delegation coming to Brussels to present EU-Latin America initiatives and cases of excellence

A large delegation of ICT private & public companies, research centres and Universities from nine Latin American countries (Argentina, Brasil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay) took part in the Conference “Building ICT Research Bridges on the Atlantic” organized at Residence Palace in Brussels on 2nd December.

The event represented a great opportunity to show the audience cases of successful EU-LA cooperation in the ICT research arena and present Latin American capacities in the field. The Latin American delegates were able to present their experiences in collaborating with Europe in the ICT sector as well as their capacities and know-how to potential future partners.

The target audience of the event included the press and media, European Commission and Parliament officials, members of the European Technology Platforms, sector association, lobbies and the ICT stakeholders acting in the European capital. The objective of the delegation was to meet European organizations and capacities to start future collaborations and projects within the European Commission initiatives and priorities of international cooperation within Science and Technology cooperation.

During the event, the panel speakers presented cases of excellence in ICT coming from Latin America, gave visibility to the Latin American Showcase of Excellence booklet and presented the different ICT Country Reports, giving an overview of the ICT capacity of each target country.

The event’s panel also included presentations by the European Commission on the strategic ongoing and planned policies addressing the Latin American countries in view of new and strengthened partnerships. The event represented a concrete opportunity to learn what international cooperation initiatives the Commission funds within the research programmes, and to give concrete results achieved in the recent years.

The work carried out allowed the preparation of a complete manual of Latin American Best Practices in ICT that will be freely available to the audience.

The European audience was invited to meet the potential new partners for ambitious projects in the ICT sector with a view to excellent EU-LA collaborations.
