Both, electricity and telephone services are managed by the Costarican Institute of Electricity (ICE for its initials in Spanish). This institution has centralized the offer with a competitive strategy positioning the country as one of the top service penetration per inhabitant. Internet service is provided by the ICE and Costa Rican Radiographic (RACSA for its initials in Spanish).
According to the Broadband Cisco Barometer, by June 2007 there were 118,853 broadband connections, an increase of over 25% compared to past years.
Broadband in Costa Rica is possible thanks to cable modem networks, ADSL, RDSI, WiMax or dedicated lines.
This positions Costa Rica on top of other countries in Latin America such as Colombia and Peru.
Telephone service:
According to data collected by the ICE, there are over one million telephone lines and over half a million mobile users in Costa Rica.
